The above average students are able to catch up with the latest so this can be pardonable. <BR/><BR/>The second more worrying problem is dicrepancies in the marks and percentages given in University Exams. In Pune University we suffer coz 70 -72 % is highest and getting 60% is a real achievement , however in Karnataka and Andhra highest goes to 90-92% and 72 is a taboo. Same for who have been able to guide a final year project well. If someone can manage doing those things really well, I wouldn't blink an eye before hiring such a person.
